Some words to avoid:
- Please note that the word cadaveric is a term no longer
used throughout the organ donation community. The preferred term is
non-living donor or deceased donor.
- We strongly recommend using the phrase recovering organs
instead of harvesting organs.
- There is a difference between ventilator and life
support. A ventilator is a machine used to "breathe"
when a person is unable to breathe on their own. In the case of brain
death, when the person is clinically dead, the person is sometimes
incorrectly referred to as being "on life support." In this
case, saying that the person is brain dead and that oygenation of
the vital organs is being maintained by a ventilator is more accurate.
